Seven years ago, in 2017, Woody Woodpecker’s first animated film was produced but it wasn’t quite the successful as expected. It was not only poor but it made only $15 million worldwide against a $10 million production budget. Those numbers are not impressive, especially with such an iconic character. Some concepts shouldn’t see the light of day, such as the making of that film.

It seems that the same studio still believed in the character he created and released this film in 2024. Or maybe not quite. Even more characters originating from the cartoon are joining the cast which is good because it stays true to the source. At the beginning of the film, Woody is expelled from the woods and begins searching for another place. He is happy because Camp Woo Hoo offers him the safety and security he was looking for, but the camp has a very peculiar problem there is an inspector who wishes to close the camp down.

It is clear that you are going to go to this film with zero expectations, especially after what the first one made us go through. But let me tell you: this part is not just a direct sequel, it’s a new set of characters and a new set of problems and even the story is a different thing but the most cliched thing ever. Remember Cheaper By The Dozen 2 and all the games where two groups of campers had challengers? The plot can be summarized as Woody Woodpecker, but that’s the game.

If there’s something that carries this film, then it’s really the original characters and characters’ easter eggs that were inserted into this film. I have been watching Woody Woodpecker since the age of 2, I was obsessed with this show as a little kid, I know every character and what makes them tick. I could not ever miss a Woody Woodpecker movie although I know it’s not going to be wonderful because love this character too much.

The CGI is fine, but it has its issues. What turns out to be the downside of the CGI is the animated characters interacting with the live ones. Children would face the wall as they conversed with Woody Woodpecker; it was entertaining, but certainly not for good reasons. Kevin Michael Richardson played Buzz Buzzard and he actually was the best character. He was very true to the character we have come to love. I truly enjoyed every scene when he faced Woody. I am a big fan of these guys.

The script is horrible, whining about some cliche is fine but those lines never ever looked plausible. There are occasions when they attempt to add some additional feeling to it and it just makes me look away from the screen in shame. But then again, it’s a film for children so let’s not be too harsh about it. The acting is awful. It’s and will sit amisn’s that certainly promise some entertaining moments for small kids but nothing more.

Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp could be a good time for kids, so I guess that’s what is important. It has awful dialogues and a hackneyed plot that leaves much to be desired. But hey, at least we have the original characters back, and I am all for it.
