So, I’ll be honest I didn’t know what to expect from this movie, but I was personally wowed almost every time! WITCHY WAYS makes for an intriguing narrative as soon as it is introduced, It is a weave attacking fantasy, zest, and romance. This wonderful voyage is helmed by Jane Clark who manages to thread her work through a spell binding story typical in this genre. Diora Baird’s portrayal of Eve an all too realistic virtual representation of a troubled young woman embarking on a journey for love and closure is the whimsical focal point of the narrative. Marking a new phase in her life her move out of the crazy city into a typical countryside cottage is her starting point of self rediscovery. This film has so much heart that it easily overcomes some of the hurdles it faces.

The meeting of Eve with the cottage’s owner Danni as played by Marem Hassler evolves the character into a beautiful mystery that is simply overwhelming. The intertwining of Danni’s history adds a whole dimension of romance and drama between them that builds through soft, reflective moments. Woven into their continuing relationship is their tension’s secret a plot twist that complicates Eve Delaney’s attempted grasp of her changed world. This first aspect is virtually pictorial of the heavy attachments, virtually all people and characters alike, bring into relationships grand.

The character of Penny, Eves’s close companion, was played by Candis Cayne, who infused the film with humor and energy, maintaining the balance in the film and preventing it from becoming overly dramatic. She performs these moments in a way that anchors them so they are still straightforward and interesting to watch.

The directorial approach taken by Clark presents an intersection of the fantastic with the character’s emotional journey. On a thematic level, WITCHY WAYS quite successfully mirror the journeys of individuals with the aspects of the community and the themes of identity and acceptance. The film approaches these themes of rejection and reality with an appropriate sensibility enabling it to achieve greater depth and provide a nuanced perspective on the struggles of those living on the edges of societal acceptance.

Some may perceive a lack of balance in how the narrative rapidity is portrayed in different scenes. This slows down the pacing a little, even though the specific scenes are all very meticulously done. Nonetheless, the film will win the hearts of many who belong to the LGBTQIA2S+ community thanks to the storytelling and the inclusion it depicts. This story was created with love from the cast and crew members. Sure, some parts will feel like you’re watching a Hallmark/Lifetime production but that’s not a bad thing, because the film understands what it wants to convey and delivers it well.

WITCHY WAYS is such a joy that even bypassing the confines of genre style only to narrate an appreciation worthy tale does not feel forced. It captures the essence of love and self-acceptance beautifully. It stays rooted in the consciousness of its audiences effortlessly weaving a narrative of self-acceptance and the ordinariness of love that is far from ordinary.
