Terrifier 3 (2024)

Certain films really have no chance of even succeeding outside of their hardcore communities. Sociopaths for example are restricted to the realms of streaming and cinematic diversity circulation. The Terrifier film series, for instance, isn’t such a great idea commercially, but it somehow manages to stay in theaters. The latest installment in the series, Terrifier 2 not only outperformed its predecessor’s fame but also triumphed over more costly rivals, making it a cultural phenomenon in its own right.

I have no idea what the normies are thinking, it is more bizarre than many other bizarre things I have come across.

The plot of Terrifier 3 goes beyond the scope of Terrifier 1 and 2, but it is not necessary to view the first two films in order to understand the third installment. The film is about a demonic clown known as Art (David Howard Thornton), who has been decapitated (it’s not an illusion!) but is looking forward to tormenting (in this instance, slay, violation and disfigure) Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) and everyone she has had relations with in the past. Seriously, that dude (and Victoria his ghoul) want only total bloody destruction.

You could say ‘sort of which is justified as Terrifier 3 doesn’t feel like a movie but rather more like a haunted house, having said that the film makes up for this by being thrilling, unsurprisingly, But it is fair to point out Terrifier 3 does stand out when it comes to jump scares. Its even small things such as how it employs sound. When Art enters a house on Christmas eve dressed as Santa, the very sound of his footsteps sends chills down the spine, due to the contextual meaning. I won’t reveal which rocking chair technique, but there is one right after that one too.

Terrifier 3 screenwriter and its director, Damien Leone, is definitely in the spectacle business and he does provide. I’m shocked that such an utterly brutal film is so popular; Is it become so violent that it becomes conceptual art once again? Its excess violence and gore had reached for some point when they ceased to have any influence (beginning with the masturbation with broken glass nothing affected me until the final battle), but the idea of torture, death and absolute mutilation does inspire to an extent, doesn’t it?

Let me explain: on top of the unjustifiable aggression, Art is violent to an uncomfortable extent too. Particularly with Sienna when his purpose for her is not insidiously killing but perverting her inner absolute. He seeks to corrupt her. He has an extended chore in doing this culminating in grotesquely imaginative methods for Sienna’s final act of defiance against him, which are even more nightmarish than the violence itself. For instance, he keeps slapping the back of her head. Its not over the top and the slaps come in with excessive power and sound, so it’s disturbing.

Terrifier 3 is merely a dexterous exercise in pointless and exaggerated murder. There isn’t much more to talk about as there’s isn’t much substance to Terrifier 3 or any of its predecessors. It’s not as exhilarating as you would imagine in a overhyped kind of way but I can see where the audience clashes to watch this movie that is a little different from the rest. This is the gore horror film that made moviegoers buy tickets in an unprecedented fashion. The kind that once had your parents thinking there was a Texas Chainsaw Massacre and was instead a slasher. It embodies the fear and paranoia of everything the childhood of an eight years old kid would do after spending a day with everything that would happen in that death spiral.

The people who go to watch the Terrifier 3 movie have an understanding of what it is to deliver and the movie is straightforward in that regard. It should be noted that this movie is much more than what the character from the movie Sienna or her niece Gabbi (Antonella Rose) portrays. The movie is much more than this – it is an all out endurance test. I agree there is no flipping around a complex emotional story that needs to be understood and two characters are granted that depth, while the rest of the cast is consumed by chaos and carnage. Why? Because we all paid to witness it.

In this ever expanding movie franchise world where sequels barely touch the fame of its predecessor, there is Terrifier 3 that manages to not only to surpass them, but truly garners a loyal fanbase. While it may rightfully not be defined as a full circles, one trick pony, Terrifier 3 definitely excels in depicting its aura flawlessly. Has it been deprived? Darn tootin’ there is. Is it ugly? Certainly, it had more than enough factors to cross the line. But the end goal of the movie is what sets it apart, the feeling it instills in the audience and the emotions we felt made begging for more. So yes, it is the epitome of horror and entertainment in a single bundle.
