The film outlines the story of Ana a broke singular woman who loves art and aims to open her own art gallery. The plot begins with her doing an internship for a certain Claire DuPont, who is the head directing the Erwins Auctioning Gallery in New York. Afterward, after witnessing someone who is supposed to be her co-worker make an error Claire DePont specifically requests Ana to serve as her third assistant and travel to the UK with her and her two second-tier assistants. The hate is so intense that these women decided to buy Ana a ticket in economy class on a different flight. There is even the ticket agent who has observed the scornful treatment that Ana receives from her colleagues and decides to upgrade her sitting arrangement to first class, which includes the usage of the first class lounge. She meets a man named William and accidentally spills her drink on him. Later on while on a plane she notices that she is seated next to William, the individual she spilled a drink on. upgraded(2024)
From the get go, they are drawn to each other and strike up a conversation, and that is when the real story starts. That’s why when Ana was asked by William about her profession, she was quite shy about her profession as an Assistant. She, therefore informed this handsome British man that she was a head director in the New York office of Erwin’s making her practically impersonating her boss Claire.
I have not watched any reviews, did not watch any trailers so I did not read any summary of this specific film (which is quite typical of me whenever I prepare to watch a film). The only thing I knew was that it is a rom com and you know rom coms are my animations.
To begin with, I believe Camila Mendes should be offered more romantic comedy characters because it was outstanding when she played this character. To be honest, she is a very talented actress and this role proved it. Further, I want to add that Marisa Tomei was great as Claire DuPont however, I thought that the writers got over the top trying to make her character almost a copycat of Meryl Sreep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada-Miranda Priestley. However, I feel like writers always try to seek out that type of female hard headed boss character but they don’t quite turn out as in The Devil Wears Prada.
The storyline of the film was dubious. I can’t say that I like such films whose romance is initiated through some falsehood because they are not convincing and the film sometimes gets spoiled for me. In any case, I did not care about it very much because Ana was honest and direct and explained that it was all because she was quite insecure and that is why she felt the need to lie.
In the movie, one of my favorite scenes was the sequence where both love interests started going out on dates. That is just adorable, If there is one thing about the film that I would take issue with, it’s the last chapter. Most of the time in rom coms, it can be a deal breaker for me, and this was the latter. In my opinion, it was quite obvious that the resolution was the fastest part. Also, the fact that Ana was first let go from her position and then reinstated to the company within the hour was rather embarrassing. This would have been a better picture had their weaknesses in the ending been lessened overall rating wise.
