Indeed, I’m starting October by watching some of the worst horror movies on Netflix, and my heart fills with joy! Perhaps this could be a bit tortuous as there are countless horror movies which have a rating of one or two stars. Especially for someone who has refined taste in cinema. However, there is some pleasure within the pain, and that completely warms my heart. And yes, I do get inspiring from these low-budget masterpieces because regardless of how horrible they truly are they’re made with love, and respect for one of my favorite genres, and let us be honest that does mean a lot!

Choosing a movie to start my third season of “Horrors of Netflix” was a bit of a challenge. I really wanted to start off with one of the season’s best films.

Scrolling my recommendations, I checked out the rating for each movie that passed by and slowly started to dip with the cover becoming more and more cheesy. Definitely wasn’t judging a book by its cover, but I sure do get the hint!

As always, I will share my in-depth thorough and detailed thoughts in a review under a Continue Reading cut for those who would rather watch the movie. If you do plan on watching it, do not read further; consider this a warning of sorts. If you do not wish to be spoiled, do not read ahead!

Even the synopsis looked weird, The Traveler did not fail to deliver! The first scene features a girl who looks suspiciously dressed for an Amish funeral who happens to thin rope and surrounds her uneven terrain forest while her pet cat roams around nearby. Now having enjoyed skipping like most other girls back in the day, the surface area where you are trying to double dutch meant everything.

Before the quirky Amish-style girl could even start to reconsider her behaviour, she is pulled from behind by an unidentified person, which is tied in with the opening credits, and dragged away screaming for help. There is no word on the cat that accompanied her.

On Christmas Eve, which is raining, two police officers enter the front lobby of their precinct. They are swearing, and at the same time dragging rain water which adds to the controversy, and causing the floor that has just been mopped, to get messed up. That, I am pretty sure, is why the nerdy, big-boned cop Gulloy gets angry. I suppose he is the rookie and that is why he gets treated so terribly by the two officers after Gulloy confronts them regarding their bad language and the floor which they have just sided.

Elsewhere in the precinct, which is the most depressing looking police station I have ever come across by far two other officers are filing away end of the year paperwork, and it is easily established with a kiss that they are either in a relationship and or sleeping together. Before they are next interrupted by the two asshole cops previously discussed, who too noisily barge in on what was a slightly strive comically inappropriate in the workplace situation where rather than just remaining quiet during the awkward moment, they decide to act like their kindergarten students who have never seen two adults kiss before.

Detective Alexander Black (whose name can be seen on a door leading up to his introduction scene on the movie) is seen in his office at a different part of this endlessly desolate building – listening to a voicemail from, I would assume, his married or ex-wife girlfriend, and who claims she is taking their children with her- from him – during the holidays. Placed on Alex’s desktop is a framed picture of a girl’s child in that strange Amish costume from the opening sequence of the film. I believe this should be done to prepare the audience towards the fact that Alex was/is the girl’s father and that should hurt sympathize with him because, you know, it’s Christmas and everything, but I can’t help but be annoyed that he was apparently there (or, at least, whoever took the picture was) the day she vanished considering she’s IN THE SAME WOODS IN THE PHOTOGRAPH – and didn’t see her get kidnapped or hear her screaming for help? What kind of cop are you, Black?
