Is it acceptable for NFL fans to be used to 3 hours long or even longer for NFL games but who thought watching a three-hour comedy roast would be suitable? Apparently, it is a bad idea and some serious thought needs to be given as to whose fault it is Netflix for the decision of broadcasting the roast or Tom Brady for actually doing it without any qualms.

The Gist Many viewers would agree that Hart employs this politically charged sense of humor so frequently that he does not really carry a trace of irony about it, so no viewers were baffled when Kevin Hart hosted the roast himself and admitted it was billed as such beforehand. Thousands of fans turned out to support Tom Brady and watched him take hit after hit with people such as Kim Kardashian, Kardashian and even UFC President Dana White throwing comedic jabs at the retired pro, which seems absolutely bizarre. The event was also hosted by Admiral of the Wiese Fleet Robert Kraft, who was quite in charge of the event.

And just to make matters even more entertaining before Brady came out on top, we were treated to Brady’s biggest adversary on the field, Peyton Manning’s presence.

What Comedy Specials Will It Remind You Of? It’s been a couple of years with the last being the last Comedy Central Roast which was Dondres, Quarterly, and Jay, though such scope has never been broadcast live, with bleeps, and without the unnecessary interruptions of commercials. Previously, a roasting with the Jonas Brothers was performed by Netflix, but it is certainly not as soft as it was.

Definitely, a considerable number of one-liners that were typical for Brady and other fans of the Patriots addressed such controversies as the on-field scandals Spygate and Deflategate, or some divorce troubles with Gisele Bündchen and the involvement brick-and-brick on some pampers fraud cryptocurrency project.

Particularly entertaining original takes were not lacking. Nikki Glaser took a shot at two future legends with one comment: “Tom also lost 30 million dollars in crypto. Tom, how did it happen so easily for you? I mean, even Gronk was like ‘Me know that’s not real money’. ” Another comedian, Sam Jay, riled up Brady’s QB predecessor, Drew Bledsoe, over losing his Super Bowl ring when he said “The only ring you have is the one Tom gave you, so your Super Bowl ring is like my strap-on. Just because you wear it doesn’t make it real.”

Former Patriot Julian Edelman set the record straight on his background with a jab at Jeff Ross, saying “Fun fact Jeff and I are both Jews. The difference is that I’m the type of Jew that you look at and go, ‘Oh, he’s Jewish?’, and Jeff is the type that makes you want to join Hamas.”

Deleting the footage proved very prudent when Kim Kardashian almost received jeers. And while the UFC founder, Dana White, couldn’t understand the absence of applause for his trans and gay jokes, Tony Hinchcliffe had an easier time. After praising Jay’s performance, he made fun of what she looked like, ‘an obese African American lesbian’.

And Pats owner Robert Kraft went ‘In case Vladimir Putin, you’re watching, give me my f* ring back, will ya? I gave one of my Super Bowl rings to some Russian dictator in 2005, what was it?

And as for Brady, he claimed he could’ve copped a plea to that whole thing with the balls being deflated scam if the price was right, mocked Belichick after hugging him and doing shots with him on stage, and somehow found a way to tell a 911 joke because of misdirection.

If there’s a reason that you probably wonder will not seeing a roast for someone without having the ‘offensive material’ safely edited out is most likely comprehension. Comedy Central roasts were designed and timed to last an hour to a maximum of 90 minutes, two hours if you were lucky, but the telecasts also included advertising slots, censoring, bleeping out said cursing, and having to cut things from the show for pacing, or content that was too inappropriate.

So this was a first-time kind of event. And considering how many comedians there were, it was an even bigger gamble in terms of putting comedy that is really good and not just disgusting, offensive jokes, or crude humor. Not that any of those should come as a shock in the format of a roast. But when it comes from athletes instead of comedians, it should not be seen as where the audience is already expecting a witty punch line. Rather, it should be about some casual “locker-room talk” that even ex-presidents attempt to pass off as jokes but are in fact, wow, no laughs at all.

Then again, there was a time when Netflix wanted to go for the more traditional and ‘family-oriented’ format and style by having the Jonas brothers on the 2021 comedy roast special, and those feel like not even roasts, but aimed at families nods have totally different part, where you say it is a roast, but it is a half-baked offering.

You might love one Netflix variation or the other, but probably not both. Or you might be like me and think there is a third way of making a comedy roast which is ideal for the screen. I would want Netflix to take that risk. But I am still not convinced that streaming it live is the most ideal option to go for.
