These are enigmatic fusion between a blaxploitation film, a pirate movie, and a women in prison type of film. Many of the movies from the 70s produced in the Philippines were bizarre to some extent, and this is no different. The namesake gang is captained by Kelly (Bell) and Anggie (Katon) and they are more like pirates that pillage ships in what seems like the Caribbean but is actually in the Eastern Hemisphere. They also engage in a little bit of feuding with a rival gang of pirates and use their skills from Kung Fu to enhance the battle. Kelly’s sister finally goes missing, and she is eventually traceable to a coffee plantation run by the wicked Monteiro (Carreon) his estate is styled like a Southern plantation before the Civil War. My apologies Heroes go within the covers but find it harder to come out.

Fine manners are in fine form at the beginning which is a Modern, urbanized interpretation of the sixties ‘swash’ nourishment. Unfortunately, it didn’t remain with this idea, it could have offered something innovative. Still, from the moment Kelly and Anggie, yes there is an extra g in there, appear on the farm, it is sad that it follows a well-worn-out path having sadistic guards. Fellow captors who are sadistic, scream showers. Many showers. After the anticipated endeavours to escape, get retaken and punished, everything eventually tops off in a riot that was predicted, but made somewhat more dynamic by the unanticipated subsequent appearance of the competing mutherspirates to Monteiros Bell.

Both Bell and Katon had again worked in tandem with Santiago in T.N.T. Jackson and Ebony, Ivory, and Jade, respectively, and make a remarked decent impression here. It my knowledge, I have come across other reviewers that negatively criticize this for chaos and lack of action, but I can’t say I hated that aspect too much. Yes, there are instances, mostly when any of the acrobatic parts are not exactly well covered. Still, on other occasions, they’re putting in their fair share of effort and it is something one must appreciate.

For such a distinguished city, there are items on offer that are indeed rather less sleazy. This was my initial interpretation. Bell did not leave much to the imagination in her skin-tight top. But the statement is not, entirely correct. It was mild. Then I saw it on Turner Classic Movies and something I suppose would have made sense. These are some refreshingly broad definitions of classic.

Still, the rote WIP fillers served in the middle could not prepare me for the later sections. I was left hoping they would have stuck with the pirate theme they introduced at the beginning. Just so much fresher. Maybe as I put it earlier I’m just grumpy. After all, I lost the bet which my wife placed. Judging by a guard tower that overlooked workers’ huts, I made a guess that later a guard would fall while it explodes into a giant fireball. To my disappointment, I am angry to report this one simple pleasure was completely suppressed. Agh! What is the world coming to? To think, it didn’t even deliver on the expectation.
