Dodge Tynes is about to embark on quite a wild adventure, where he is ready to risk everything to protect his ailing wife before an advanced stage chronic disease take him out. In an attempt to pay for his wife’s treatment, he agrees to be part of a deadly survival game show which involves him getting hunted by other competitors trying to kill him. He gets to keep the remaining amount in his bank account after surviving for an hour.
With the passage of time, Dodge started experiencing severe migraines and was eventually unable to do much. One day, he fainted and had to be rushed to the hospital. After tests were conducted, he was informed that he had an unremovable tumor in one of his cerebral hemispheres which meant that his life expectancy was weeks at best! These treacherous circumstances proved to be too much for his pregnant spouse, Val, to handle, only for him to soon receive a rather curious business card.
The sender of this was Miles Sellars, and after a meeting, he gives him a very interesting proposal that he could get money that his family could live on, for Miles Sellars didn’t have any insurance. This leads to rather fatal agreement where it turns out that Sellars managed to convince him to become a hunted victim in a real life action film. For every second he stays alive, money is transferred into his account.
While some scenes in the film are overly done, I found them relatively powerful, but lacking in development compared to the promise. He was at a point were it was rather obvious that he could never trust anyone and that the person he was convinced was normal, was seeking to kill him. I still wanted to know the how everything ended, so at the very least, it keeps you, as it were, engaged and quite frankly, some thinking on how that might come together.
Liam Hemsworth might not be as well known as his brother Chris, but he has several consistent projects and isn’t shy in trying out different genres. Christoph Waltz, on the other hand, seems to have been born to play villains, don’t you think? I do, and it was an interesting casting choice.
When I came across this feature during my scroll on Amazon Prime Video, I initially did not realize that it was previously released as a TV series that had short episodes and had difficulties getting distributed. Just like how Amazon took over and revived it back into a feature film. I was really lost while writing this review due to how it was listed on IMDb with nothing but TV Series episodes.
