It seems entirely imprudent to reason with matters of science fiction, and perhaps even counterproductive. I attempted to apply some rational thinking to “The Empire Strikes Back” (It still baffles me that everyone was able to breathe the air everywhere they landed), and in return, I got over 50 letters that were equally split between the people desperately trying to explain the reasoning behind the movie to me, and those who were claiming that there is no logic in “Star Wars” movies and it doesn’t matter.

The application of logic would, if possible, matter even less in “The Final Countdown”, where the aircraft carrier Nimitz goes sailing through a time whirlpool, only to be flung back forty years, to the day before Pearl Harbor. Appealing indeed: A full fleet of nuclear powered jets off Pearl harbor and in complete control of the military harbor, just waiting for the Japanese attack. The way the movie was executed is especially unfortunate; the carrier was the only compelling feature of the film. Navy assistance was received while filming onboard, and thus the operations of the carrier have been depicted in interesting depth.

Take a wild guess and forget about the plot. Nimitz is gliding through calm seas and out of nowhere, a massive vortex opens in the sky. This is positioned to be a passage into yesteryears, although it appears as a cutout from the unreleased test screening of Disney’s ‘The Black Hole.’ We are taken back to nineteen forty, and the vessel is in position to change everything. Are they going to wipe out the Japanese air fleet? Haha, we already know they can’t. We have a future without them, or with them, I was thrown back from a future that didn’t have a Nimitz. Anyway, right before the hour of zero, another vortex throws The Nimitz back into nineteen eighty. Yet, two individuals are left behind.

Thus a time paradox becomes unsolvable. Consider a scenario where a person from 1980 goes back in time by 40 years, then lives for another 40 years. Would he be able to have a meeting with his younger self? The almost does here: A Zil flies in when the Nimitz is sailing during its ill fated cruise in 1980. An old man who as a young lad on the cruise shows up to the parking lot, gets thrown back in time, on a deserted island for life, forty years and then gets in the limousine to view the ship sail.

However, one thing doesn’t add up, right? If that person’s old and young self is standing at the same dock AT THE SAME TIME. As I recall, that implies multiple people existing incarnations of the same figure – a concept that multiple simultaneously existing versions of the same person is something that was strongly discouraged in high school physics.

And what about the other issues? Let’s think about the kilometers for instance. Nimitz captain Kirk Doulas orders an aerial strike towards the usaf that… and after waiting till the last moment he cancels the order as the nimitz enters the second to last whirlpool. Why does he withdraw the attack? What makes him back off? I am unsure of what is exactly going through my mind, but he also seemed to not allude me to it. One sound reason for withdrawing the attack from the planes is pretty good: the ga – that’s the nimitz gets pulled back to the 80’s somewhere over the pacific ocean, and when it gets to that point it ought to be under the waterbuilding would get to be a problem. Now don’t divert the issue. The film is dodging the delicate concerns – and it so painfully lacks concern to carry us through any of those questions that I have enclosed here. Which allows us to have a fair share of time to think further.
