The Book of Henry” can be classified as part of the Amblin-produced suburban drama for the reason that it depicts children as the hope of America and portrays parents as the total opposites, clueless or completely broken, with “E.T. The extra Terrestrial” being one such title that fits this genre. The aliens in this adaptation are replaced with an all-knowing youthful genius instead. Which is understandable because Colin Trevorrow, after directing Jurassic World back in 2015, has all the rights of being called as a strong disciple of the Steven Spielberg.

Now Trevorrow has Greg Hirwitz’s script from nineteen years ago and it would seem that he has decided to fully embrace his independent style he exhibited in his first movie, “Safety Not Guaranteed”. The fall imagery is misleading with its small sleepy towns, cheerful diners, and white-picket fence communities. No one would expect a modest county to have a booming gun shop (where any high quality weaponry could be bought with the help of just a name “Dominic” and a hefty sum of cash) would exist. Bullies do exist in this periphery and as claimed by our eleven year old protagonist, they should be dealt with.

Trevorrow balances out the gaps in the story through the interference of different characters and their emotions, which later allows the movie to come full circle. For reference, Jaeden Lieberher who featured in the movie “St”.

Vincent, portraying Henry with a tremendously high IQ and a mother Teresa-like disposition. Henry’s God-given high IQ along with his diligence and empathy for the society makes him a true gem. However, one may find him bragging about his stock portfolio and talking on the phone with a stockbroker, but he could hardly be blamed as he prefers to attend a normal school alongside average students. Of all the contexts in which several people are considered to be too good to be true, including one who has a big heart, Henry not only is full humility from within, but also is genuinely grounded.

Jacob Tremblay has cemented his place as a notable star after impressing audiences with his performance in “Room” Sharing a room with his eight year old brother Henry, Tremblay, who plays Peter, was able to connect with him to bring a more relatable disposition for the audience. The brothers have devised cool means of communication; despite being merely inches apart, they use walkie-talkies to stay in touch. Meanwhile, Jacob Tremblay was able to bring himself back to reality and prove how versatile his acting skills truly are by taking on such a sobering character. The brothers seamlessly transition into their roles as siblings, committing themselves to each character fully.

Dad is entirely absent and is not commented on at all. Patricia for example, mother Susan (Naomi Watts in one of her increasingly more numerous grandmother stages) is a good mother who loves her sons but suffers from all sorts of insecurities that prevent her from fulfilling her ambition of becoming a children s book writer and illustrating the stories. Instead, she is a waitress, drives an old station wagon Volvo, and games out her frustrations, with Sheila, her co-worker, while trying hard to drown herself with alcohol. Sheila is a filthy mouthed Sarah Silverman and there is no denying her wardrobe can only be described as fashion roadkill, according to Henry.

Christina, the nice looking yet increasingly shy ballerina who lives next door and does not have a mother runs away with Henry. For one, he is able to watch Christina, who is a pretty motherless girl who has become a more and more socially withdrawn. He even sees her stepfather, who happens to be the police commissioner, visit her in the evening and thinks it may not be a good thing. He called the police, but nobody checked what was going on.

Next are the headaches that Henry suffers from and has been kinda quiet about being he is now reliably a one-man show. That is one sure movie sign that someone is not going to the end credits. But as per Henry’s way he has made a plan in advance and has left it all in an orderly manner in a notebook as well as on a tape to his mum on how to start a search if need be for Christina’s step-father. At this point, “The Book of Henry” abruptly shifts to a not sem bueno thriller with suspense elements, a deadline and a talent competition. At some point, what seems as traumatizing and indeed life changing experience somehow makes Susan change her perception towards life to be more towards taking responsibilities than circumvent off it. Stephen O’s get to work is cute but in ‘Older Durerman’ Lee Pace becomes Susan’s doctor and she is obsessed with him. No awkwardness there or anything.

My attention was drawn to the inexperienced performers in the cast throughout a good portion of the movie alongside enjoying the scant bits of deadpan humor including the scene where Henry detailed his own medical diagnosis to his startled brain surgeon in the most complicated language possible. Every book however requires an editor, and there is absolutely not a single advantage in the threat to make Watts a mother killer. This is to say that and in fact it also makes his film look like a fool
