Thank you very much, Gareth. Coming from a small Wyoming town, it was quite an experience to gather family and friends together to write and direct my very first short films as it was my very own Hollywood. Following college, I risked it all and went to Los Angeles and started doing stage plays at community theatres. Later, worked on Background in TV and Film for a bit. Managed to book a few acting gigs in student films and indie projects here and there. And I just couldn’t stop, and more and more, bigger and bigger projects and opportunities came my way.
My big break came when I sent a self-tape audition in a Global Talent Search and I got cast as one of the Leads in the sci-fi series Space Command. It was a great moment for me because it not only was a big part but as soon as I got off the plane I found myself in a large soundstage that had the set of an actual spaceship with great actors who were busy transforming the sci-fi world and I was cast over to the very warm and hardworking crew and creative team who I’m proud to call friends even now.
Yes, I was shocked too when my work began to double after I moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta. To date, I have been cast as Guest Stars in recurring roles, and featured in numerous films and television shows like The Walking Dead, Doom Patrol, Ms. Marvel, Echoes, Young Rock, and Found, as well as, films like Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Red Right Hand, and Son, to name a handful. It has been acting in several of these roles that I consider my big breaks.
Looking at Stunt work how did you get into that and do you endorse the recent call to have it rewarded at Oscars and movies such as The Fall Guy trying to bring focus to the craft?
It all started with just having a passion for Action movies and wanting to be in that universe. I worked with a sword fighting/stage combat company in Los Angeles for many years, I’ve done wires, pratfalls, wall breaks, squib vests, firearms training, and all that which is a whole bunch of fun.
As such, it’s much needed to have an Oscar Category specifically targeted towards Stunt Work. I’m very keen to see how the voting will take place however, being able to witness the need for coordination, timing, technicality, and physicality that comes together in creating what Stunt Teams do it’s really an evolving form of art.
There Are Actors There Are stunts, There Are some stunt performers that can act and Every actor says that they do their own stunts. it’s the movie magic circle of Life.
What can you tell us about the Redemption and how does it fit in the general framework of the previous entries in the series? Space Command Redemption is an epic sci-fi saga, in which my character, Captain Jack Kemmer, lives out his grand destiny alongside his valiant crew onboard the spaceship Paladin. In the story a character played by me who is an ex-archaeologist, seated on the outskirts of Mars retrieves the proverbial ‘domino’ which triggers a chain reaction that can alter the fabric of history in this galaxy.
A captivating dimension that makes the Space Command Franchise stand out is the fact that it possesses action, adventure, and most essence, it possesses substance. For creators Marc and Elaine Zicree, this story creates a more bright outlook into what the possibility of our future can be. As Retention explains, the decisions we make now may echo through the generations to come and lead to changes which would be unimaginable.
In the context of evolution, how would you describe your character or how they changed as the series progressed?
I feel that Captain Jack Kemmer has developed the ability to act on his instincts while growing as an individual who does not cling to decisions, enabling him to seek assistance from others.
As for the other side of your work challenges and best memories, what would you like to share with us about that?
The greatest difficulty I faced was trying to not overly geeking out every day on set. Sure, we are on a big spaceship with actors whose faces you have seen on screen for years… but, you still have to calm down, allow for a second, and go back to work.
There are so many things that were really fun and feel so real even today. For me, it was the day when I made my first appearance on the Paladin bridge as a Space Command officer, together with the people who were so keen about recounting that day. It was really one of those moments where you find it hard to believe what is happening around you and you pinch yourself to see if it is real.
How went in the preparation for you to come back into that world again and was it hard?
For me, returning in that universe is quite simple for the reason that the focus is wholly on the writing. Marc and Elaine write the scripts, so when each of them is working on a particular aspect of the story, they can coordinate efforts to ensure the story flows, and the different characters and events fit together within the framework of the Space Command epic.
Are there any plans for you to make some convention appearances for it?
A few of the upcoming projects that are quite exciting to look forward to include my leading the cast of a lead gritty thriller feature called, Love Dogs, directed by West Eldredge. I have recently finished working on a post-apocalyptic feature titled, On the Run co-directed by Isaac Stovall & Tabitha Jordan, where Zeb Cross plays Bryan McClure’s Space Command brother. Also, you can see my supporting role in KEMBA directed by Kelley Kali, a BET Original film about Kemba Smith who was an active advocate against crime and in criminal justice reform.
