The wait is finally over for Karen Kingsbury’s fans as she releases her most recent picture, Someone Like You(2024). Although her novels have been made into films many times, this is the first time her own company which is, Karen Kingsbury Productions has created and released a film on its own entirely.
I was very appreciative (of the other movies) – but it was never the movie that God put in my heart, she said.
For her to make that a reality, she had to self-fund and produce everything. Certainly cinematography of gorgeousness, wardrobe, and settings all of which Kingsbury made.
There was nothing that went wrong so we ran our schedule, and in 25 days. We asked for wisdom and favor, and we received it, she said.
Although most of the time I do tend to tell you about new artists and their works, I was certainly interested in the fact that Someone Like You was filmed in the state of Tennessee and includes scenes shot in Franklin City and Nashville and several shots from Alabama.
Someone Like You is a sad but still redemptive tale about architect Dawson Gage, portrayed by Jake Allyn, who went against the wishes of his high school sweetheart London Quinn, acted by Sarah Fisher, and pursued her. Fast-forward a decade and while both are only best friends, tragedy befalls them. The heartbroken Dawson now feels the need to make one last gesture for London – to find Andi Allen, London’s secret sister (also played by Sarah Fisher), separated from her twin at the embryo stage. After hearing about it, Andi cannot comprehend the situation and feels threatened by her non-biological parents. Nevertheless, Dawson never thought of falling in love at any instance.
On the night of its premiere at the Franklin Theatre, all of Kingsbury’s friends attended the show and the stars were out in droves.
Danica McKellar (Hallmark, The Wonder Years) remarked, “It’s a moving film. Even after the loss of a child, you are able to discover strength, through faith, through God, and in the love of family.”
Amy Grant and Vince Gill attended the event in honor of their colleague. Grant said, “We feel Vince and I want to stand behind this movie and arts. Karen Kingsbury is all the way through. All of us need to stand for the arts. This mix of being from Franklin Theatre, it’s like the best of being from a little town. And that’s what Franklin is.”
When Vince Gill heard that Micheal W. Smith was supporting his son Tyler Smith who composed the score, he also remarked: “I look forward to the score. Nashville has emerged as a good hub for making films. Which is good for the city.”
Michael W. Smith went on to say concerning Tyler that: “This guy who can run circles around me on the piano has taken up this gorgeous art form of composing scores for movies. He was terrific! There’s definitely a filmmaking bug in Nashville.”
Fox News host Shannon Breams stated, “I appreciate all her books, each of them is so uplifting and there is always some teaching.”
What a phenomenal and beautifully redemptive message this film brings. Grab the tissue, you’re likely to need it.”
Dan and Shay’s Shay Mooney attended the event with his wife. ‘I admire her work, I admire her.’ I’m looking forward to seeing this film. Nashville a city that is known mainly for its prowess in music is now attracting focus in movie production again on a smaller scale. I suppose that there are no outsiders in Nashville, which is great because everyone works hand in hand. As authors, we all deign to be as graceful in our writing as Karen Kingsbury.”
In agreement, the Christian performer Matthew West said, “I’ve been friends with Karen for years, she’s always been a big supporter of mine with my music, and we just got to be friends. I have a lot of respect and admiration for her work. And when she does something she does it to excellence and so this film is going to be spectacular.”
To this statement, Rory Feeks added, “Karen Kingsbury shares Jesus with the world and I respect that about her.”
Kingsbury and her family focused all their effort on trying to develop the quality of this picture. Still, she believes that the film has to prove itself, irrespective of the Christian background attached to it. Her son, Tyler Russell was the director of the movie titled Someone Like You.
Russell said, “I’m so proud of this movie and so proud of the work everyone has done. We had a fantastic crew and cast. We did the movie in 24 days. It was a wonderful journey. Our aim was to create something that’s of the finest kind and treat the cast and the crew with as much love and care as we could. The movie is what we are making but if people in the process feel adored, feel noticed, that’s the only thing which is important in the end.”
List the names and profiles of all the actors involved in this project. I can’t miss to mention how great Jake Allyn’s and Sarah Fisher’s performances were. It was chemistry on the next level. And Lynn Collins, who portrays London Quinn’s mother, Louise, had emmy scenes.
First, I did not know who was playing London Quinn and who was playing Andi Allen. I was rather shocked – did Sarah Fisher, who played both roles, tell me the truth?
Fisher said, “It is really a privilege to bring one of her outstanding three-dimensional characters to life. But to do that twice (playing two parts) is such an exhilarating challenge for me. I enjoyed the opportunity to bring two characters to life. And Tyler (Russell), for me as an actor, was simply phenomenal, for while we were Andi and London on location in Alabama, that we did not collapse over, even to the laugh how we were doing it.”
She went on, “Karen is so wonderful. She is so artistic, she is so warm-hearted, she is so generous. I really enjoyed and emanated great pleasure working with her.”
In addition to the film, Someone Like You which hits theatre screens on April 2, the book series, The Baxters by Kingsbury has also been acquired by Amazon Prime and is going to stream starting March 28.
Roma Downy (Touched By An Angel) features in The Baxters who was also present at the premiere to chair the event in support of her friend.
“I loved the book series as a reader and now I take the joy of producing it, and have become the matriarch, Elizabeth Baxter. It is a family drama and I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this. It has all the problems and issues that any family is likely to have. But they are a family of faith and when they get knocked down by life,” she recalled. “I am here because I am Karen Kingsbury’s number one fan. I am happy to come out here and wave on her flag.”
Cassidy Gifford who was also present and who plays Reagan Decker now lives in Nashville with her husband and baby. Her mother Kathie Lee Gifford also lives in Nashville. She said “People are so nice, here. It’s just a whole other world. I am here tonight to stand behind Karen whom I love very much. She is such a creative and hard-working inspirational woman. I feel privileged to be present to encourage her.”
Also, like every one of Karen Kingsbury\’s works, The Baxters is a wonderful touching story that you will wish to see again and again. The Baxters will be available to watch on Prime video starting on the 28th of March.
Readers are always saying Karen Kingsbury’s books and movie adaptations are like Nicholas Sparks novels. As for the works of Kingsbury, there is a touch of redemption. The last shot is not the full stop.
