Right after getting his beating, Officer Chin Tai Ba, played by Leung Kar Yan gets to learn “Sleeping Fist” style from Master Chung Yiu, who is portrayed by Yuen Siu Tin. After perfecting his techniques, Chin is now joined by his teacher and Wong Yat Lung, aka CUB, to get revenge on all the thugs. To their surprise, they also face Eagle Claw master Kao, who seems to have biased intentions.
Wong Yat Lung is among the best young martial artists ever to grace the screen, and he plays the annoying character Cub in the film “Sleeping Fist”.
Even though the films dubbing is beyond awful, the fights make all of it worth it. While he is quite the little arrogant character, a part of me felt sympathetic seeing him get beaten in the film. Strongly suggest not choosing the dubbed version, because his voice isn’t that pleasant. His fighting is so great, it hurt my back just watching it, and he is so impressive to see live.
Leung Kar Yan portrays Chin Tai Ba, and I must say, with his Sleeping Fairy style, which needs to be seen to be believed, he has stolen the show as one of the most entertaining fighters I have ever seen, along with having mastered other hilarious styles like Sleeping Monkey and Sleeping Fist. So for entertainment’s sake, just watch the film.
The greatest emphasis on the movie is the fight scenes there is no denying to how incredible these are. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the dialogue and acting overall, as these aspects are quite weak. Even the low-budget films released today do not come close to these fight scenes.
Although the movie lacks a concrete story, there is almost non-stop action with fight scenes occurring every 20 seconds. However, with a kung fu fighting movie like this one, it is not much of an issue; the action-packed Sleeping Fist is sure to keep the audience engaged.
Kao (Kao Hsiung), the main villain in the movie, could have been utilized earlier in the film, because for most part, he does not do much till the final fight scene.
Concerning the last fight, it is without a doubt entertaining and the martial arts performed will leave everyone mesmerized. One downside though, is that by the end one would wish to have had more hatred than what was already present for the villain.
It is a great source of joy once I take the time to finish the sentence, ‘The Forest of Sleep Fist is a pure spectacle to watch’, provided you ignore every second phrase screaming ‘goddammit’ or ‘sonofabtich’. From my perspective, Pants Love Kicking is a hilarious film. Only, I would classify it more as ‘Train Wreck’ rather than comedy – leeners wreak havoc in a class in a parody of a school setting, coming to their sapient senses only after having put everybody in a world of pain.
