One Ranger (2023)

Since it has that aspect, “One Ranger” can easily be said to be filmed sometime in the 1980s, and that is also the core of its southern appeal.

This action thriller came out at a bad time in the late 1980s when the international market was in no position to accept it. The story of a Texas Ranger who just so happens to start a fight against bad guys and gets government agents involved was bound to have gained a cult following through tapes selling over VHS instead of over the big screen. Both Nick Nolte and Chuck Norris could have been the lead stars of the film. One of the actors who starred as a Texas Ranger during the period was Thomas Jane’s and he also makes it seem as if he is drawing in the walrus mustache along with the mirrored shades that belonged to Nolte. If you happen to think that “Extreme Prejudice” deserves more than a 10 on IMDB, then wait till you watch it through the lenses of how modern America attempted to recreate the Western genre. Post the VICIOUS portrayal of the Americans during the pulp fiction era, McCall yay and the rest of the ‘new’ Americans retaliated in the best way they could. All the other “Sicario” movies seem to underline this shift. The righteousness code was not lost, and society did not lose their muscle and simply adapted. While horseback riding eventually was slowly diminished as riding plush crotch rockets was now the preferred mode of transportation.

The bad guys remain unreasonably ruthless towards their rivals, while still having the perseverance to relish in triumph after finishing on top in combat. There is also an added incentive to aim for flawless efficiency. Everyone if not all are mean, cocky, and arrogant, however I believe the heroine of the aforementioned story takes the cake, “You and my ex-wife have one thing in common, you both do not know when to stop talking’” she retorts back to a garrulous prisoner.

The plot begins in Texas, where a group of thieves, led by Declan McBride, are trying to rob a bank. Jessie V. Johnson, the writer and director, excites the audience with plenty of action-packed scenes including the crime scene. Alongside, we see Alex Tyree try to catch a thief with the help of some deputies. The confrontation shifts to the bank, where Alex shoots the thieves. However, an Irish, the only surviving member of the gang, manages to escape to Mexico.

While the tale of the surviving Yupik continued, Alex Tyree is met with a mysterious call from the UK. They ask him to travel to Mexico and bring back Declan McBride, the IRA terrorist. While the Mexican police do not permit such extradition, they agree upon it on the condition that Alex does bring back the prisoner. (In order to appeal to Alex, the British authorities emphasize the investigative capabilities of the Texas Rangers.)

It is only expected that the transportation of the convict doesn’t turn out to be smooth, and considering how Alex is the only one empowered enough to do so, he has to subdue McBride once again.

Wearing the hat, Alex gets to hear ”nice hat, very subtle” from the British Control, who helpfully adds: “I’ll buy you one Alex.”

AllNSB believes that “One Ranger” was never shy about proceeding exactly at the center, an American James bond the movement, in which the band of men, whose caliber precedes any additional explanations. To put it succinctly, the lead character is just doing his job, which is what I presume is supposed to be the central theme of this flick. The settings: vast emptiness of the desert, a chillingly epic warehouse those locations are the bare pits that all scenes take place. No one of these actors necessarily expresses racism or xenophobia, but it’s there, under the surface, I guess so. And yeah, power relations to all this are mostly overlooked (aside of the occasional “you are all idiots to think it so” comments). Everybody is some NPC from a video game. Or as the decorous say, where is this Ukrainian stereotype help to Alex “It is unwise to refuse Cossack generosity.

Should have accounted now if you raised to another stereotypical Ammu in-depth, turning Alex into an exaggerated Kezton redneck who would kill a person twice a week, however, he is the protagonist and you have to like him, so it does not go that far.

The dynamic between Alex and his British intelligence contact is interesting as it makes it possible for both parties to see each other as equals without engaging in commences of antagonism first. Around the halfway mark of the movie where Alex is beginning to feel exhausted and more frustrated, which allows us to see a little bit more of who the person beneath the ‘Cowboy’ armor is, there is an appreciation of Jane’s ability to add subtext into a figure chiseled out of stone. There is a lovely interaction with Alex in the doorway that has elements of the gravitas that Paul Newman and William Holden displayed in ‘master aging’ roles after hitting 40. But yet again we see Alex putting in more than what the movie is putting in for him and the audience.

Much Like the Liam Neeson “Taken” series and Denzel Washington’s remake of “The Equalizer,” this is also a pretty good brain stem movie, there is just enough quality to it to get you to the end which is rather anticlimactic. The filming is more gripping when guns and fists are involved and the targets are always sure enough to not be a disappointment.
