Jailbreak: Love On The Run(2024) is another exciting addition to the Netflix True Crime Documentaries collection. It is almost an hour and a half in length, which is not too long, but the plot covers various aspects in detail.
The focus of this documentary is the love story of one of the Alabama correction Officer who gets bazinga over a murder suspect, gets him out of prison, and the two run away together. Crazy adoration or simply insane? It’s your call. Best gifts for your loved ones
Come along with us as we dive deeper into our analysis of the film Jailbreak: Love on the Run. You will be able to watch it on Netflix starting from 25th September 2024.
However, I’ll let you know that Jailbreak: Love on the Run starts when Vicky White meets Casey White in the year 2020. Their relationship blossoms even though Casey is incarcerated and they talk quite often during calls that are recorded.
Then in 2022, Vicky White informs her supervisors that she intends to retire from her FCT role. After seventeen long years working at Lauderdale County Detention Facility located in Florence, Alabama, she was drained from the long shifts.
She is an assistant director of operations and has previously been recognized as ‘Corrections Officer of the Year’. She is liked by both fellow workers and inmates. But no one loved her more than Casey White.
Vicky reportedly told a colleague that she would make sure to go out with a bang. And boy did she. Casey White went on her retirement and she could not have chosen a better occasion to get herself in trouble, as she broke out Casey White on her last day of employment – April 29, 2022.
Supposedly, they were being transferred to the Florence courthouse so that Casey White could undergo a psychiatric assessment before his trial. But they never returned. Instead, they went on the run. Hence the title of Jailbreak: Love on the Run.
Well, it was a detention center, but that doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
On the other hand, Vicky White and Casey White only met in the year 2020 and thus the two are not related. What a Fluke!
I am fully aware that some will consider it very romantic that these two lovers are on the run together. That’s not me. And I’m a big supporter of love. I love love. But this on the other hand seems more like an attempt of running away from an uninteresting lifestyle.
Aside from the fact that he was already serving a 75-year jail term for multiple cases of extreme violence, he is facing trials for capital punishment as we speak. There is no question that this would send him to the death sentence, so they had to run away before it was too late.
Seeing his arrest for the crimes, (yes, crimes), made me resent the fact that there was a 75-year sentence passed. The sheriff is almost laughing when he recounts the time of arrest when Casey White was demanding for him personally to come.
He threatened to commit suicide and wanted to see the Sheriff because, well, they were quite familiar with each other due to a number of Casey’s prior legal troubles.
How would he have lived in a racially charged South, even as a white man? I imagine Casey White, being a black man, would be dead within halfway through his antics, and any sheriff wouldn’t be reminiscing about his capture and laughing about it!
The dramatis personae were Vicky White’s acquaintances and ex-colleagues, which makes it possible for us to listen to a lot of accounts of the events as they unfolded. They, like the rest of us, are in disbelief that such a thing could actually occur.
And, it would seem, a couple of them were even almost supportive of her, at least at some point.
I wouldn’t say I understand that, but I respect following one’s dreams. I have no issues with loving, consenting, adult individuals. Assisting a violent criminal in escaping when you are supposed to be babysitting him? That is crossing the line.
It is definitely what also makes this genre of true crime interesting though.
Admittedly, the true crime case does by itself engender in me a sense of nausea – a man like Casey White deserves to be behind bars. However, I did enjoy the overall production of Jailbreak: Love on the Run.
