Marilyn Gregor’s brother, Don Gregor, was arrested for possessing an unlicensed handgun which led her to a police station where she met Inspector Johns as well as Lieutenant Bob Lawrence. He is freed once she manages to post bail, but they decline Don’s plea to have his revolver back. John thinks that Brady is mixed up with the gangster Vick Brady which made her brother get into serious trouble.
Once the Gregor siblings got back home, Don took a book and a hidden revolver from it. When he was about to walk out of the house, an unexpected meeting with his father, Dr Boris Gregor, a reputable plastic surgeon occurred at the door. Soon after, Boris went to his book safe which is when he figured out that the revolver was gone.
After a short time, the location changes to a bar, where Don and Brady are meeting and Don is already receiving his cut from a heist that took place some time ago. Brady’s first words are that they are going to rob the payroll of the Monterey Theatre, and even though he does not like the idea, Don goes along with it. Alone, Brady and Don break into the theater and they catch the nightwatchman by surprise. Don holds him at gunpoint, and with the help of a few threatening words, he is tipped to the closed safe, but they are interrupted by Miss Willis, a bookkeeper who is preparing to leave for the day. Unceremoniously, Don shoots the nightwatchman, and Brady puts a bullet into the back of the fleeing woman in the hopes of silencing her. Later, when Don is in a daze because of those actions, Brady collects the loot. As sirens are heard around the theater, the two criminals dash while the police come. Out of the blue, they manage to escape the police, and to the nightmarish scene, Don learns that the woman he shot was indeed Miss Willis, but she is somehow still alive. At a later point, she comes forward and testifies against Don.
Brady takes Don to his girlfriend Loretta’s house. While Don leaves unnoticed, Brady unintentionally loses track of him. The next evening, Don goes to his father’s office and tells him about the murder. Boris wants Don to turn himself in to the police, but Don’s guilty conscience makes him comply. With Boris’s assistance, Don manages to evade capture, but not before Brady manages to nab him in the car and turns him in. They hear on the radio that although Don is a murder suspect, everyone believes them to be in cahoots in a robbery. Trusting the notion that surrendering is the only option after murder, Don tries to keep reminding Brady that he is done running from the law. Brady silences him for good. At this stage of the story, Don’s partner switches into self-preservation mode. He attempts to hide a body behind the curtain in the kitchen until he can figure out what to do next.
Brady decides to escape criminal charges after setting up such a heinous crime. He thinks about getting some plastic surgery and attempts to reach out for Boris while suggesting that he has captured Don and won’t release him unless the surgery is done. But Boris has other plans and decides to distance himself from the conflict.
A few days later in preparation for the operation, Brady, Boris, Loretta, and Marilyn meet. Brady shows distrust towards the Gregors and has to be convinced that anesthesia is necessary. While Brady is sedated, Boris starts looking for a water basin in Loretta’s kitchen. He not only discovers the basin but Don’s stored corpse. While operating, he remains calm and keeps the information to himself. He states that the bandages have to stay on Brady’s face for the next two weeks.
After two weeks, Brady and Loretta arrive at the Gregor house on time but so do Johns and Lawrence, who had been invited by Boris. They had arrived earlier to learn about the bandaged man. Once removed from the bandages, Brady’s new face is revealed to the world, and it is none other than Don. Apart from Boris, everyone else was left in shock considering him the wanted murderer. But Boris made a remarkable claim that the man was his son. Brady, who is horrified, attempts to flee and falls into the crossfire of police bullets. His dying body sinks into the swimming pool.
