I have been busy with my indie horror movie marathon and I am continuing with it! In the past couple of days, I followed through with some of the recent Wild Eye releases. After watching Bigfoot Blood Trap, I posted my review, but unfortunately, I was not as impressed with it as I would have hoped. Although I adore Wild Eye, I cannot say the same with all of their movies. Then I followed it up with an Open Wound review. Nevertheless, the film was not horror in an ordinary way, but it was quite fun. In fact, I enjoyed it far more than I had anticipated.

Next, I planned to watch the 2014 Stephen Wolfe Doll Factory and honestly, the artwork made me think I was going to be in for a boring movie, but I ended up liking this one so much that after watching it, I decided to watch it again. I never really get to rewatch films so close to each other. Thank you, Wild Eye, for sending this one over.

This movie is about party people on Halloween who attempt to break into a deserted structure to have a fun time and that’s when things go sideways. The structure they chose to party in was a doll factory where an evil crime happened decades ago. An evil soul was trying to capture even more souls and so were his dolls. A few years back, the local sheriff and some other people restrained the doll maker. But now, the partygoers, have triggered the old evil soul and his dolls again, bringing the elderly sheriff back into the chaos.

Delving deeper, my four out of five ratings definitely suggest that I absolutely enjoyed this amazing film. I used to write reviews for action and exploitation films from the 70s and 80s, but over time my love for horror took over. I can now see there was everything horror-related that I was reviewing back then. “Doll Factory” is one of the many indie horrors that I spend most of my time on and adore. The best part is, that it has an easy doll story, standard characters, and locations that make sense and are affordable.

In this instance, the acting fits the film. When it comes to most indie productions, they seem to seek out actors with the minimum necessary experience and expect them to pull off brilliant performances. This only means that most scenes that would otherwise be impactful instead come out as unbelievably hilarious. Doll Factory did not make such an error. Instead, they enjoy having a little fun and ‘messing’ with their characters. The result is so much more palatable on screen. The characters created for this show were so nice, and the rest of the cast just got it right.

The story here is simple and amusing and really is appealing if you are into Full Moon’s doll-themed movies. I grew up with Full Moon dolls so I really enjoyed what Wolfe and the team were able to do with the story. I also liked the occult and supernatural spin thrown on the story as well. The scenes are filled with dialogue but they are somewhat humorous and it works. I also liked the look of the film. It once again reminded me heavily of the Full Moon films we’ve been given the last decade or so.

Most importantly, this film caught me off guard during the first few minutes with some great practical effects and we get it the rest of the film. I loved the blood and the effects look fucking amazing which really adds another level of enjoyment to an already entertaining film. Overall, Doll Factory is a pretty fun movie. It is as easy as that. I really enjoyed myself and now I feel as if I need to go look for some other works from Stephen Wolfe. He has the same eye for horror as I do and I can’t wait to see more from this extremely talented filmmaker. He has a DVD with Wild Eye so go and check it out now.
