Dr. Dolittle is a charming, childish, and downright hilarious story of a doctor who can talk to animals and listen to their loud, often wind-breaking conversations. The film is a mixture of the 1998 movie and modern-day Hollywood preoccupation with intestines and is sure to enchant numerous children with its focus on the digestive system.
Eddie Murphy plays the role of a well-known vet who has his own animal clinic where he even conducts therapy sessions for dogs without owners. Charisse, had just turned 16, and my wife, Kristen Wilson, is calm considering the house is filled with a variety of pets and animals along with a raccoon that leads the doctor to an emergency. With my home life being as hectic as it is, the bare minimum I can expect is a dash of patience from her., which at times seems more challenging than his work life.
The situation at hand: An angry forest is on the verge of being demolished by a well-fed and rude antagonist of nature in Jeffery Jones. The animals, with the assistance of a beaver that has more power than gold, now desires to use Dolittle and this idea is nurtured by the animals. Whatever be the case, this forest is for certain in danger. Dolittle goes in court with his lawyer partner wife to bail him out of trouble. Kevin Pollak plays the role of the Dolittle’s wife lawyer who has simplified the daily hassles of being a prefabricated forester.
A lot is at stake since the land is a territory of a she bear which is a protected species. However, the villain’s lawyer argues that since she can’t exactly reproduce by herself, what is the point of saving her habitat? Thinking quickly, Dolittle hires a male performing circus bear. Is it possible to train a bear to fulfill the roles a male bear, in his natural habitat, would have to fulfill? When the bear is reluctant to do so, Dolittle becomes an animal sex therapist.
This is made much easier thanks to the doctor’s gift of talking to the animals. Strangely, they all understand English. Besides the crocodile, there are no other nasty animals in the movie who, out of the view, does his dirty work and the bear is so kind he comes to Dolittle in a country cafe, goes into the bathroom, and for some reason knows the use of a toilet seat. He is one of the four bears, who, in a combination of fictional Hollywood and television, plunge into the forest, which as you can imagine, Woody Allen would love.
There’s a moment in this story, likely drawing inspiration from “The Edge”, where the bear slowly walks outside onto a log that is in a precariously balanced position and attempts to pull some honey down. Doing so would mean he is trying to prove himself as a man or bear. Can the bear learn the art of reproduction? And what would Dr. and Mrs. Dolittle do about the ridiculous offer of ten acres as a compromise? The tale takes a wonderful turn when the animals of the world decide to go on strike and shut down Sea World.
Studying “Dr. Dolittle” is not the most rewarding exercise, and this is the movie that best fits Murphy’s work in the Nutty Professor movies because he was much more versatile (and funnier) in them. Like the PG rating indicates, the film is targeted at children, who will most likely love the cute animals, the straightforward story, the slapstick humor, and Dolittle’s incredible narration (to the bear who stars in the movie) about how a bear’s body elimination mechanism turns off and on during hibernation.
