Hallmark’s A Christmas Together With You is a nice little surprise. It focuses on lost love rather than a newly blossomed one. This might be my favorite film that depicts high school sweethearts reuniting. I generally despise that trope but somehow the film manages to make it entertaining.
A Christmas Together With You stars Laura Vandervoort, Niall Matter, Liza Huget, Henry Lennix, and many more. In this film, we follow Megan (Vandervoort) and Frank (Lennix) who are moving to a new town to recover Frank’s first love, Claire (Huget). We also witness Megan running into Steve (Matter) and his dog, but their first encounter ends badly only for Steve to redeem himself later in the story as they both end up in the same town where Megan stays in his family’s cabin.
The film does not fully delve into the love story between Megan and Steve, or even Frank and Claire for that matter, so it isn’t an instant favorite. But it still has a lot of merit for superbly capturing the essence of a found family. The emotional moments stem from the bond between Megan and Frank, a family they found in each other.
With the news that Megan’s father died, we now understand the loyalty he shares with Frank, and how Frank has taken up a father role in some sense. A Christmas Together With You is a love story that tells us what it means to have people care for you, and how far people can go out of their way for the happiness of others.
It is about the beauty of not letting go, the act of narrating, and the willingness to trust again. It teaches opening up to new possibilities, even if it comes with pain, is the window to one’s heart. The moments shared by Frank and Claire were breathtaking so one could not help but root for them. They, and the respective angst that came with it, were, in fact, amazing in all aspects.
However, it was as much the fact that he was this open with Megan, and the ongoing support he was providing her with and showing her acted as tension towards the romance. It’s obvious that this trip means a lot to both of them. Where love seems to have failed them both, they are better and stronger because of the chances they’ve taken.
Reviewing this specific movie was exceptionally easy due to its believable yet emotional storyline. A Christmas Together With You features a family that comes together through found family tropes and while their story doesn’t seem as believable due to the common cliches used in the film, the chemistry between the actors is still able to encapsulate viewers.
You can really only comprehend how sad the film gets when you watch as their pet Steve breaks into Megan’s car and it is undeniably one of the saddest moments in the entire movie. But the film as a whole is beautifully sweet, and definitely tugs on your heartstrings.
When the credits start rolling, you blindly have an inclination that all of them end up happily together in relationships packed with love with children who will be their forever family.
