A group of campers comes together for one last Halloween experience that is both entertaining and scary. Baited into the premise the participants are horrified when a clothes-wearing man behind a mask grabs one of them and begins to slice and dice the campers.
Before this, I had never heard of this concept myself. But I’ll be honest, it seemed like such a foolish notion that it oddly appealed to me. I have a bias toward the movie and its terrible stereotypes. With this feeling in mind, I went into the film thinking it would be great.
Oh. My amazing. How unique I’m feeling a little guess the login screen here to obtain something, This was roughly a struggle. Syfy channel levels of effort A Tubi original movie level. The setup hardly excited me and I thought it was quite pointless. Ironically enough, this was one of my most torturous viewings during FilmSnobs and was for the exact purposes.
If you ask me, a group of campers saying their campsite is called Camp Naptime is probably the best compliment to the film. As for the script: quite unintelligible and very cone headed. The acting Even in community theater is better than this. No, this is not a good movie at all. No, that’s not the appeal of it either, is it? It’s not so bad that it’s good. It’s just so bad. How is the idea? You try to put sense into this and it comes crashing down in no time. The conversations are reasonable, but the lines were written badly. As for the plot structure? What plot structure? When they say it was like watching a terrible community theater production I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a bunch of local theater wannabes. None of the adult interactions sound realistic as the narrator portrays everybody as angsty and ignorant. Even a 13-year-old could have written everything better. Frankly speaking, I’ve seen more convincing performances in OxyClean commercials. No shining stars here sorry to say. It’s not the usual fare for me to be so caustic towards a movie, but scraping the barrel this was the most abysmal film I have seen all year. Nonetheless, it did take me a while to track down some redeemable features of this film, and thankfully some there are.
The redeeming elements of this one are how the killer’s mask looks, as well as some of the gore effects. The person responsible for the practical effects of the gore tried their best, and the one who created the mask (although it does have a tiny back story that is a little absurd ) did an incredible job. It’s just too bad they were wasted on an inferior film. I feel that they were compensated appropriately and that in the future, they will be able to work on higher quality films.
Our Grade F, although this movie is one of the few that at least earns a point for looking bad. It is not my intention to show disregard for this type of film, but there’s no way, dear reader I could lie to you and say this was a good film in any shape or form. Because it isn’t. A note to horror fans don’t go anywhere near this unless it’s to make a drinking game with buddies out of this. Even then, there are better reasons to drink than this film. Forget all the parts of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 The Dream Child and Friday The 13th Part 8 Jason Takes Manhattan, and you will still be left thinking that these films were astonishingly brilliant in comparison. When you are able to make a movie about Jason Vorhees turning into a child look watchable… there is something catastrophic that has happened in the process.
