The plot follows college cheerleading, however, the original cast of Bring It On was not featured in the sequel. Although, the entire cast is not the same, there are some familiar faces like the old team leader of the Sparks.
The film starts off with Whittier, a blonde girl (played by Anne Judson Yager), who is daydreaming about her audition for the cheerleader’s position in her college. A figure lurking in the shadows of the audition room remarks, “she sucked”, followed by a mob throwing food at her. The scene is strange, but even strangest is that Whittier wakes up at California State College where her parents are dropping her off. Whittier is seen moving around the property to find her dorm room only to run into her friend Monica (played by Faune A. Chambers). After they meet, the CSU Dean informs the freshmen that there will be budget cuts that will result in losing half the extracurricular activities, with the exception of cheerleading and football. We see the head cheerleading blonde Tina (played by Bree Turner) with her team the Stingers.
Tina’s conservative appearance makes her stand out to me as one who is high maintenance. Even the choreography of her cheerleader Stingers team appears to be overly conservative. During the screening, Tina was so obnoxiously rude and some of the girls threw in pancakes and some of the more creative ones made a pop. Each loved the tryouts of Monica and Whittier and so did Tina. They too got onto the squad. But before they did, The Dean told Tina in front of Monica and Whittier that she needs to be hardcore with the team.
Derek and Whittier cross paths at the orientation. But Whittier is reluctant to entertain the idea that he is her type or an average college student. The young ones decide to sneak out of campus to the pool, where they plunge into the water while kissing…. And they just met. Whilst on the team Tina is too commanding and overbearing especially to the freshman on the team. Whittier talks to Tina regarding her having a shot to be head cheerleader and them controlling the team to some extent. What a nutcase.
Right after the cheer sequence of the homecoming game highlights which is on national television, Whittier decides to tongue the camera. On Tina’s gathering, things got super boring with the characters and the dumb football guys hating on Whittier’s boyfriend. Tina makes Whittier break up with him. During the session she was mean to Monica and pushed her on the backhand spring making her injure herself. The team is out and the both Whittier and Monica decided to do the unthinkable and form a team of their own.
In the audition tryout, we see Tryon in Drake and Josh and Carly auditioning for the show. And then we see the students from the extracurricular activities rioting after the Dean. Monica and Whittier decide to amalgamate the clubs into their squad so that they can bag the cash prize for their clubs. It started out bad and very low but then became a bit alright. Some portions were dull for me until Whittier and Tina measure up their teams against each other for one of the hundredths spots in the nationals. Finally, Whittier competes in the nationals and Marni starts having a raging fit.
Prior to watching this movie, I had come across reviewers who had made some harsh reviews about this film, some even claimed that it was the “the worst cheerleading teen movie.” To be honest, the audience and reviewers were not lying. The film had no sense of humor and did not pique my interest especially the whole cheer sequence. The sequel definitely needed more humor to work and can it be done? Yes, they can. To be honest, this was one movie that I feel they should have brought the old cast back from Bring It On to improve it. Tina was too much of a and went too hardcore on the team and it makes me hate the movie. To be honest, I am not surprised that her character is too conservative given the impression she creates with her appearance.
