The stars try their best to make the storyline interesting. Bring Him Back Dead has been one of the most talked about movies but it literally squanders all its potential. really doesn’t make good use of it. The stars do their best, but the movie seems to be dull throughout.
The movie is mindless in nature, and it draws up my interest in a diamond heist, but it fails spectacularly. The boss gives an order to stay in their hideout, but Alex decides to leave. Alex decides to betray them all in such a way that he drugs the whole group and takes Trent’s daughter hostage. This allows Trent to decide to send the rest of the gang to retrieve Lisa, the diamonds, and, of course, kill Alex. Despite my excitement regarding the nature of the heist movie, I was bummed by the conformity and cliches every character fell into. It almost aims for a ‘Tarantino/Reservoir Dogs’ approach and misses it entirely. While attempting to draw on the unique aspects of Tarantio’s works, the character development, pop culture references, and tension-filled dialogue are nowhere to be seen. Rather than building any nuance or palpable tension, Bring Him Back Dead provides a bland interpretation surrounded by tough masculinity. The dialogue in the movie is distinctly interesting. Instead of providing the character nuance or elevating the tension, the dialogue simply fails to serve any purpose. Such tough-man dialogue is mundane and boring. Everything in the movie misses the mark, even the violence is inconsequential and bland.
There are incredible movies like Prey that were set in a forest and were able to do a lot with it. However, with Bring Him Back Dead, it feels like there is a lack of funding instead. I remember Red Letter Media saying that shooting in the woods is inexpensive, and it feels like this is the case for the production of this movie, as it looks like some employees had a camp or knew someone who did, and so they filmed there for cheap. The ending, much like the rest of the movie, feels very rushed and needs work. There are so many shocking deaths packed in along with other double crosses, but in the end, nothing exciting or interesting comes out of it.
The most annoying note of the film would have to be how much potential Gary Daniels had been wasted. Gary Daniels, for those who do not know, has excelled in a number of martial arts films, and along with The Expendables, one can tell he is an accomplished martial artist. Bring Him Back Dead has only 2 or 3 fight scenes and while Daniels gets to do some cool kicks and strikes, the sloppy, uninspired, rehearsal feel of the fights comes across quite clearly, The movie suffers from a lack of characters too, and consequently, deaths further reduce the chances of entertaining fights and action. If there had been a plethora of faceless goons for Daniels to really go to town on in the woods, you would expect a better and more entertaining movie, which must be admitted, Daniels does deserve.
Bring Him Back Dead’s title is intriguing, and I expected it to be an engaging B-grade action film. However, the absence of action or an interesting storyline brought my hopes crashing down. This film suffers from the overused problems that plague heist/crime movies it has more pointless meandering through forests than combat or stimulating dialogues.
