Three men enter town like the legendary Clint Eastwood, Lee van Cleef, and Franco Nero (some argue it was Gian Maria Volonte), though they are not the main characters of this film. The men appearing to be Franco Nero are such evil gunmen that windows and doors crushingly shut for safety. An already black-dressed bounty hunter awaits them. The gunman are also introduced to a gravedigger who is trying to ride out of town, all while having three coffins. The destination of the coffin is somewhere around the gunman. All of this escalates as the bounty hunter unmercifully and remorselessly kills them as if it was nothing.
The film ‘Vado, l’ammazzo e … torno’ actually mentions that the gunman goes and kills in the scene. In the wise words of a man, the movie takes inspiration from more famous genres, but the rest of the movie serves, have wonders within it. However, no matter what I just stated, this has to be a great opening to the movie itself.
Hilton see the Mexican bandit he is prospecting chasing down a train that is being robbed. The Mexicans then start fighting amongst themselves which gives Hilton second thoughts on whether killing Roland is worth it or not. In the end Roland captures and kills the man who tricked him, however he himself is eventually caught and placed on trial for murder. Just before he is executed, Hilton appears out of thin air and saves him, however, he runs into an issue with Byrnes, one of the crooked employees at the bank. One of the medallions that he has in his possession reveals the hidden location of the gold, and that is also something that will need to be taken care of.
It seems that there is little need to have any further examples for the presence of a subplot and the film’s unique action and comedy aspects. For instance, the fact that three different parties have an interest in the treasure makes the premise of the movie similar to the latter. His remarkable imagination is at work in this film as well. One of my favorite movies from great Enzo G(irolami) Castellari is certainly a spaghetti movie flick Keoma and Johnny Hamlet, its Shakespeare’s counterpart, but he is known for some of the fun elements he incorporated in his works. Just like Django shoots first, made by Alberto De Martino in1966, this lighthearted Spaghetti western flick is entertaining. It still has some prosecutable violence, there is assault committed during the train robbery, and the genre inflicts some cynicism. It’s far too humorous to expect the second half to be so violent. What greatly facilitates the change is the fistfight between Byrnes and Hilton while Hilton was dressed in nothing but underwear. While Castellari seems to have issues with pacing, unfortunately, there is enough depth in the outline to keep us engaged.
This motion picture is part of the St. Clair Vision collection, which consists of 3 DVDs and 9 movies overall. Don’t expect too much from such collections, though I must say this movie is in more or less its original ratio and the image is of fair quality. Also, it is 1h37m22s long, so it seems to be unedited unlike the official US version. It is said to be 5.1 virtual surround, whatever that is, but I did not hear much in the way of surround activity. There are some lip-sync issues, but the dialogue is always comprehensible. It is rather crackly and has a bit of hiss. With so many lines being in Spanish, the absence of subtitles may inconvenience some.
