The fact that Max Havoc: Curse of the Dragon even got a sequel to its original 2004 movie is quite shocking considering all the difficulties the movie faced. But as the saying goes, there’s a way where there is a will; or perhaps in this scenario, where there is funding, there’s a movie to make. Which was the case with 2006’s Max Havoc: Ring of Fire.
Max Havoc: Ring of Fire has completely replaced the surf and sun from Guam with the cool crisp air of Pacific Northwest. Even the Kick box champion turned photographer, was visiting The Colonial Hotel for a photo shoot of Suzy Blaine, a Tennis star who is making a comeback. Things get a bit difficult for Max when a kid pretending to be a hotel staff manages to steal his camera case, which leads him to a foot chase, in which the kid miraculously comes out on top. But luckily, Max did manage to grab a clue that allows him to track the kid and reclaim the camera.
Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn: Before we find out if Max got his camera back, I want to highlight another key player in the film, Roger Tarso, who was soused by a bleached blonde Dean Cain (Futuresport, Phase IV). That particular hairdo got me thinking Dean had to be the villain of the movie. But for a moment, I absurdly maintained some hope that he is just acting the part of the glad proprietor of the Colonial Hotel… but Roger Tarso not only has been singlehandedly dealing with the riots and looting that is taking place in a neighboring section of the Colonial, he has an issue with one Max Havoc. Tarso, an ex-Army, had a minor incident with Max in a pub some years back – it was one of those ‘never lets the better man emerge’ scenarios where the bar fight actually never kicked off. As we know, with regards to Max Havoc, Roger is uncertain and incapable of ever knowing whether he soil shut one out.
Man on a Mission: The lead that he followed enabled Max to head for St. Michael’s Mission, a church that rests at the troubled Parrish District which has endured a lot of violence lately. Caroline, the mission’s nun, has been looking after it and when Max arrives to retrieve the valuables Emile stole she is all too familiar with the culprit… Emile. Max discovers that Emile’s parents were killed in an accident and his elder brother Ramone has joined the local gang that serves the enigmatic “Tiger” who is responsible for a lot of chaos in the Parrish District. He starts to find out that Emile does have some interest in martial arts, and even gives Emile and some of the other kids a quick lesson… but then the kids get an impromptu demonstration when the gang (including Ramone) shows up and tries to intimidate Sister Caroline into getting out of town immediately. Max jumps in and single handedly fights the entire gang which prompts cheers from Emile and Sister Caroline. News of Max’s heroics also gets the attention of Suzy Blaine and the two are instantly on a romantic collision course.
