For Timothy Friend, the second film Bonnie and Clyde Vs Dracula was his second film after Cadaverella released in 2007. He has gone silent for the past 12 years, only to recently emerge as a writer with a few western novels published.
There are numerous novelty stories about Dracula that have come out – most of which are quite fascinating. In the past, Dracula met Billy the Kid in a showdown in Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966), and Giacomo Casanova in The Story of My Life (2013). He has also fought the comic book hero in Batman vs Dracula (2005). There have also been lots of fiction/history mashups on screen – for example, Sherlock Holmes had a story where he tries to solve the Jack the Ripper murders in A Study in Terror (1965) and Murder By Decree (1979) and, the Western outlaw in Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter (1965). For more examples, take a look at Real-Life People in Fiction.
Bonnie &Clyde Vs. Dracula is fascinating from the outset. The concept is gimmicky, but it leaves the viewer curious as to how the producers will pull it off. My primary concern with the film is that it appears too low budget. Timothy Friend and his group do manage to some extent to acquire the period vehicles and clothing, but there is nothing specific that stands out as out of place. Perhaps some of the attitudes and speech, but nothing sprung out at me in a glaring manner. However, the video, camera and lighting work for the movie is very modern and it is overlit too much for it to look realistic like it is set in the past instead of modern actors reenacting it.
Just like many scream queens, Tiffany has risen to fame since the early 2000s. Unlike most everyone else that has held such a role, she has done some solid work, And for the record, she is not a bad actress. Sadly, she is miscast as Bonnie Parker and outfitted with blonde hair. The performance she gives is a broad one, and it can be considered campy verging on at times. It was even more difficult to consider her as the much more historically complex character of Bonnie Parker than the one we get on screen. Jennifer Friend’s performance in this film strenuously is the worst and the most dull. And everything in between was irrelevant. (The wife? sister? of Timothy) Far too much time is given over to such a petulant and silly character.
