It seems Presenter Andy Instone definitely missed the entire joke of releasing a stay fit video titled ‘Phat Moves’. There is not even a hint of a light in his eye, and he says ‘Let’s Get Phat’ more than once.
With its highly anticipated release to the popular “Hip Hop Workout” DVD, Phat Moves Street Dance Grooves provides a perfect complement to one of America’s great loves, Hip Hop. Toned and buffed, you will be able to unveil the raw street style scratches that the entire world appreciates. ‘Phat Moves’ will teach you the basic hip hop moving techniques and at the same time provide strong cardio workouts; its a win win! The best part of all is “every session will end in a fierce performance where [you] can show off what you got!” So everything is all fun and games.
We owe a thank you to Drag Andy Instone, who, with his PR team, managed to show Britain one of the best choreographers around. Starting his mesmerizing dance journey at the age of 8 years old, he deciphered every kid’s dream: analyzing the legendary Michael Jordon music videos, and boom, by the age of 15 he had the title of the hip hop king in his treasure chest (disappointment groan). With all of the attention on him, ‘Instone’ managed to use leverage and start an after lunch break class where the kids had the opportunity to learn the latest moves in the dance world. It was a huge success!
He then started to focus on choreography for school plays and numerous national stage shows and by the age of eighteen, he had started his own dance company, Urban Strides. Urban Strides also offers workshops at schools and dance academies or even with university students and forms part of the community across the whole country. (All that schoolwork mixed in with references in the video to `old school` and `nu-school` is potentially confusing).
He has also trained with some of the finest working choreographers and dance companies today, such as the Culture Shock Dance Troupe UK, a UK-based hip hop dance group who have performed with Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliot.
On this release, Andy proves himself to be an energetic and confident guide with an infectious enthusiasm for all things `Phat`. His clear voice anticipates as well as instructs the movements. Above all, he knows how to speak with effortless ease to the camera.
This DVD is all set in a souped-up Gym, with an array of `Chopper` bikes and colored gels adding a streety-feel to the proceedings. Along with Andy’s electrifying choreography, there’s a change in the scenery thanks to a whole new cast filled with various body types.
The session begins with a warm-up and after that are the workout modules under Level One. The first level is fun and engaging, although some movements are tough to try at once. Level 2, which seems aimed at more seasoned Patties, appears to pick up the pace and complexity but at no stage does it seem impossible.
