Chris Shane Sanders, who is known for his work on ‘Nest of Vampires’ and ‘The Haunted Studio’, in collaboration with independent filmmakers Black Coppice Films, presents a gruesome folk-horror story. It is directed by Randy Kent, who is known for ‘Road King’ and ‘Chinese Speaking Vampires’. He brings to life the tension and isolation in his version of Mr. Sander’s story. If you’re watching this, prepare to be terrified, because Mr. Sander’s story is much spookier than what it appears.
Helen, a character played by Alyssa Haymor, who also starred in ‘Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey 2’ goes to visit her sister’s grave. Helen strongly believes that her sister did not take her own life, which is contrary to what everyone else seems to believe. Her ex-boyfriend, Mark Cushing, is the overly supportive type and all this pressure is making her life unbearable. As a manager, Uncle David Daniels portrayed by Bhasker Patel also feels the pressure. However, he notices the changes in little Helen and her overall demeanor, which causes him a great deal of worry. Helen seemed like a different person to him. He suggests that she takes a break and goes to his country cottage which does not have Wi-Fi or mobile signal, but seems much more appealing after he buys her presents.
She finally reaches the charming cottage located right next to the forest. She unlocks the door and places her carpetbag on the table. Just as she is trying to admire the details of the nicely decorated cottage, she is executed by Dee Perkins the neighbor who also happens to be a far-off relative (Zara Hadeshian, Twenty-Two Presence, Operation Mayfair). Uncle David informed her about Helen’s visit and how her bizarre daughter Stella (Carmen Holloway, Played and Betrayed) was going to assist Helen in getting the house ready. She is confused by the strange obsession Stella has with death and the way Dee snatches things from her hair. It makes the old house feel like an uncomfortable sleep.
She jolts awake to see Byron (Jimmy ‘The Bee’ Bennett, Red Army Hooligans, Dead Again), Dee’s brother, who serves as the gamekeeper for the estate. After an uncomfortable night, she is awoken by the sound of wood being chopped. First, it was quite an odd encounter, but loveable nonetheless. He figured it would be a nice way to welcome the new resident to the area. Although Helen is quite standoffish, she eventually softens and decides to reward him with a cup of tea.
In her words, she expresses to Byron about her creepy father Richard’s disappearance. Vernon Wells is portrayed as her father Richard in Weird Science and Commando. He also relates how Byron heard some of the history of the cottage. The truth is that she learned from him that both families have suffered multiple deaths.
Helen is having a hard time integrating with the house as it’s more than salvageable supernatural horrors being unleashed and in her perspective, the locals are very strange. What do they plan to do with their new neighbor?
