As an international bestselling author, Howard Bloom has spent the last two decades pondering a single phrase ‘What does the universe want from you and me?’. This documentary covers COVID-19 times Bloom managed to navigate through life.
Bloom maintained a detailed routine that ranged from moderate exercises, to strict supplement intake. This discipline was necessary as he suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which trapped him in his apartment for numerous years.
Utopia Media’s “The Grand Unified Theory” is designed by Charlie Hoxie. It is a light watch, although it does capture Bloom’s relentless spirit. The auto Daedalus you referred to defended himself by explaining how he wanted to become an “information processing device that works for 24 hours.” To add, he states, “Grad school looked like Auschwitz for the mind.” That dubious simile Bloom makes captures the essence of what one could describe as a feat of self infliction sarcasm something that worked in his favor during his previous role as a publicist for artists in the mainstream music industry. (Thinking about how he covered Run-DMC, he adds, “We made rap.” Those other people, Kurtis Blow, might wish to have a word.)
The film spends quite a good deal of time on Bloom’s character instead of the thoughts expressed in the volumes like “The Lucifer Principle,” which is on a public commentary by actor Jeff Bridges. Also concerning is when Bloom whispers that he intends to let an instructor from Dubai and the owner of a gym do the managing of his archives where we get into what appears to border on the PT Barnum culture.
Howard Bloom has led a rich and full life as a music marketer for legends such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Joan Jett, Run DMC, and Aerosmith. In 1988, he developed chronic fatigue syndrome that left him bedridden for 15 years. Although he still takes 30 pills daily, he applies himself to work on evolutionary psychology and humankind’s purpose in the universe.
According to Howard, the one question that seems to trouble all of humanity is, “What does the universe want from you and me?” His answer has already been documented in seven books, and to maintain his energy, he divides his eight hour day into two shifts of four hours each, working from 11 am to 3 pm and 4 am to 8 am.
Now in his seventies, Howard has immerse himself in several online forum discussions and has already got a successor for his immense intellectual heritage, a masterpiece of 9000 chapters with a 500-page index. From this documentary, it is heartening to learn that this productive philosopher has found a partner to continue his work!
