Freddy Lupin is back in action! A sequel to the movie, which was released three years ago, 100% Wolf, revolves around Wolf by Jane Lysons. The initial movie has an amusing spinoff, though this one is not without its flaws. Having a clear desire to be gentle yet about overcoming one’s fears and being oneself and wanting to appeal to kids and adults alike, 200% Wolf branches out into a safe space, filled with predictability. Hence, this movie feels generic much like the one that came before it.

In 200% Wolf, the rambunctious and daring teenage poodle, Freddy Lupin, returns for more action. In hopes of being on the same level as his older counterparts, he wishes to become a werewolf. This wish however results in a troublesome baby moon spirit arriving on Earth after Freddy gets his wish. He boards a flight to try and return the moon spirit with the help of Bassie, a powerful witch, and other dog friends. If he wishes for peace to be restored to the earth, he has to act quickly, or nothing will be as is.

The main fault with 200% Wolf is that the fun only comes in around the 25 to 30-minute mark which might make the people lose interest in the film early on. The first half hour does seem to be made up of an action sequence but still comes off as too fragmented and kind of forced. It is a struggle to keep up with any of the characters and anticipate any major developments or risks involved in the plot. After this, however, it is as though the film has undergone some resurrection due to the defibrillators. Still, there are many plot points that are left vague and mysterious with no clear resolution but the pacing is fast, the comedy works better and the emotional scenes are more touching. Watching them, one does feel the faults of the previous half-hour might be impossible to overlook regardless of the powerful scenes present in the mid-part of the movie.

It is Swindell and Weaving’s voice performances that take this film over the top. Weaving’s voice and ability to crack jokes are spot on and matches very well with Swindell’s very quirky performance as Freddy which makes the bland script more interesting. Surprising, they seem to overshadow the baby moon spirit more than they ought to, who was clearly intended to be the focus.

Together, they manage to take the most ridiculous lines and dampen the impact such lines have on the final cut. In fact, they, quite paradoxically, are in the foreground.

The graphics and animations are definitely worth watching until the last minute of the picture. When you compare it with the 2020 film, there is no comparison. This time more chances were taken on the color and the themes – patterns and textures were all over, and dark and bright colors combined successfully to create an intense dream-like, and mysterious atmosphere which was lacking in the earlier film. And combined with the more fluid and relaxed movements, the wolfed world this time made it much more pleasant.

In the end, 200% Wolf is a perfectly average children’s picture with not much in terms of hits. Maybe it will bring in some numbers, but it is not so bad that it makes for an unpleasant family movie night. With such an interesting story that involves mystical beasts and a grim setting great for kids before Halloween. They would still experience all the potentials of werewolves and the paranormal but instead of savage themes, it was cute themes.
