I recently watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage. With the trailer alone, I was hyped for the film and in the end, I was satisfied with what I got. While weighing the pros and cons of the film, I think it would be appropriate to rank this at a 7/10. Here’s why this 97-minute movie is a must watch: it truly is an experience.
Eddie Brock and Venom have had quite a history together, and even now they struggle to exist together. By Carnage’s symbiote-driven evil doings, a new enemy has arisen that Eddie and Venom must face together, putting aside their differences.
Principal production of Venom: Let There Be Carnage began on January of 2019 and finished in February 2020. The movie was released on October 1st, 2021 and directed by Andy Serkis. He plays crucial roles in the making of other world famous films like The Planet Of The Apes, King Kong and Black Panther. The film’s screenplay was penned by Kelly Marcel, and the story came from Tom Hardy (who plays Venom!). Todd McFarlane, who created Venom’s character, has also created other characters, like Spawn, and has drawn Spider-Man comics for many years.
In Watching both Venom and its sequel Venom: Let There be Carnage I noticed that the choice of director greatly changes a movie’s end product. In the first Vanom movie the highlight was the storyline, however in the second installment I think the highlight was the action. Eddie’s Carnage suit was designed so well I almost felt like I could reach out and touch him. The sound effects – I could swear the creature’s roar came from a t-rex.
The action scenes were great as well. In my opinion, the first installment of Venom’s sequel could be considered a bit lackluster, however the sequel really benefited from this. Jaw-dropping doesnt even come closer to descriping my reaction to the design and writing of the two scenes: Cletus’ prison break and the battle between Carnage and the police. Another advantage to the sequel is the humor that was injected into the storyline. The banter between Eddie and Venom had me laughing quite a few times.
Yet, despite the laughter the movie brought along with the thrill that the effects provided, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was not an excelent motion picture. Even he film itself suffered many issues. For one, the film’s negative aspect is the plot. The plot was somewhat stale, and some of the scenes seemed inserted for the sake of extending the movie without a genuine need to be in it.
Another downside is that Cletus is a bit of a rant himself. Some of the symbiote voices as well as Tom Hardy’s mumbling voice made some of the dialogues impossible to hear. Lastly, I had issues with the character design – it seemed weak, especially that of Carrie White (the villain role) and Cletus, her lover. They really do not appeal to me and I think they could have been more interesting characters.
We all know that our lives have lacked action in the last two years of quarantine, so if there is one point that needs us to support, it is this. With that being said, I want to strongly recommend that you go out with your friends or family and get a chance to see the wonderful movie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. It is action packed, has some comedy elements for a good laugh as well, and generally makes for a great experience for families.
